Colin Chapman continues to roll over in his grave as Lotus has unveiled the all-new Emeya, which is a fully electric four-door flagship.
Set to go into production next year, the model follows in the footsteps of the Eletre and will be the company’s first sedan since the Carlton.
Unfortunately, the company didn’t say much about it as they would only confirmed the Emeya has a “high-power dual motor” system that will enable the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in less than 2.8 seconds. The company went on to say the model will be able to hit a top speed in excess of 155 mph (250 km/h).
While Lotus is playing coy, the model likely mimics the Eletre R which has a combined output of 905 hp (675 kW / 918 PS) and 726 lb-ft (985 Nm) of torque. This enables the crossover to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.95 seconds, before topping out at 165 mph (265 km/h).
Lotus was also tight-lipped about range, but said the sedan will have “market-leading charging capabilities” as it can get 93 miles (150 km) of range in as little as five minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger. If you’re not in a rush, you can get an 80% charge in 18 minutes.
While a number of questions remain, the Eletre crossover has a roughly 112 kWh battery pack that allows it to travel up to 373 miles (600 km) in the WLTP cycle. However, that distance falls to 304 miles (490 km) for the range-topping R variant.
On the styling front, there aren’t any surprises as the model adopts an edgy and angular design. The company didn’t say much, but the car has a budging hood and slender lighting units. They’re joined by active shutter grille as well as active diffuser and rear spoiler.
Moving down the sides, we can see flush-mounted door handles and camera pods. They’re joined by contrasting black A-pillars, which follow into a matching roof. Other highlights include a ventilated rear fascia and a slender light bar.
We only get a few glimpses of the interior, but we can see a minimalist cabin with four individual seats. That being said, previous spy photos have shown a rear bench, so customers will likely have an option to choose between the two setups.
