Like many others, we spent this Saturday taking delivery of our new G87 M2. A big thanks to Greg and Patrick BMW for their assistance (congrats on your upcoming M2 delivery ). We’re excited to share some thoughts and get right into installing some much needed enhancements on the car, but first, we have plenty of delivery photos:
Some of you may be familiar with our Gelbgrun F87 M2 build, so we thought it’d be fun to get the cars side-by-side for a fun comparison.
Some impressions: considering our F87 M2 is quite heavily modified, stock-for-stock, the G87 M2 definitely has a much more aggressive look than the F87, especially in person, and the sharper lines give it a more menacing presence on the road.
Everyone is familiar with the S58 by now, but touching on performance, the S58 in the G87 definitely packs a punch. Even though it’s “detuned” to only 453hp, that’s only 20hp down from the non-Comp model M3 / M4. Considering the M2’s 0-60 is rated at just under 4 seconds from BMW while the standard G8x comes in just over 4 seconds, you can feel a difference. And even though much has been made of the G87’s weight being so close to its bigger brothers, our 6-speed G87 feels very similar to our 6-speed G82, but easily more lively and light on its feet. Compared to our upgraded turbo N55 M2, the G87 pulls pretty hard on it from lower revs and, like the G8x, seems to put its power down significantly better than the previous generations.
One area where the G87 really shines is the interior. BMW has been stepping up its game on the interiors of each newer generation lately and the G87 is no different. The new iDrive 8 is a huge improvement over what is now quite dated in our F87, and the dual screen setup is impressive.
Overall, we’re really excited about the new G87 M2 and we can’t wait to share more.
