AC Cars, the UK-based manufacturer of the original AC Cobra, recently revealed the exterior details of the new AC Cobra GT Roadster. The sports car was originally teased in December 2022, but AC Cars’ mysterious silhouette renderings left a lot to the imagination.
At a quick glance, the GT Roadster’s retro vibes could pass as a classic model. Taking a closer look exposes the modern touches worked into its otherwise old school appearance. Note the body-colored side mirrors, flush door handles, visible carbon fiber outlines around the wide fenders and rocker panels, and the unmistakable round LED headlights with daytime lighting. Oh, and big wheels, of course.
AC Cars already hinted at chassis and drivetrain details during the December release. The approximately 3,300-pound car is built on an aluminum spaceframe chassis with race-tuned suspension underneath. It is said that the GT Roadster, powered by a 654 horsepower supercharged Ford 5-liter V-8, can reach 62 mph (100 kph) in 3.4 seconds. It tops out at 173 mph, but we suspect that AC is building this car to tackle corners with ease instead of going fast in a straight line. An optional six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic sends power to the wheels.
Since this most recent news is only meant as an exterior design release, not much of the interior is visible, but there appears to be a modern steering wheel and a mix of analog and digital displays.
Pricing will vary by region, but buyers will need to open their pocketbooks wide. The company states that the Cobra GT Roadster will fetch £285,000 in the U.K. AC Cars will present the full reveal of the AC Cobra GT Roadster in April and we hope to gather additional details at that time.
