This property at 21 Moons Lane, Brookfield, is for sale.
WHEN Leanne McLellan set out in search of nicer neighbours 13 years ago, the bar
was set low.
“My last neighbour almost drove me insane,” Ms McLellan said.
“She used to hose me through my windows. We lived on a 500sqm block and there was just no escaping her.”
The 1ha oasis at 21 Moons Lane, Brookfield has been a family utopia, with
neighbours of a vastly different ilk.
This property at 21 Moons Lane, Brookfield, has been renovated to reflect a French Provincial style.
“The street is so welcoming, there is even a tennis tournament each year and a
Christmas party for the kids,” Ms McLellan said.
“Considering what we’d come from, it is nice to be surrounded by so many lovely
people.”
Ms McLellan had coveted the property from afar for almost two years before buying
it.
The kitchen is like something out of a magazine with its sleek Hamptons-style finishes.
“I first came to know about the house when I took an art class with the former
owner,” she said.
“I always thought it was so huge, rambling, and homely.

“One day she came into art class and said it was on the market and I knew I had to
try and buy it.”
The five-bedroom, four-bathroom home has transformed under Ms McLellan’s
capable hands to become the French Provincial cross Hamptons-style abode it is
today.
The open-plan living area extends to an outdoor terrace.
“When we first came here every room was painted a different colour — some were
even hot pink,” she said.
And the grounds have had their own metamorphosis by way of husband Simon’s
unlikely conversion from CEO to green thumb.
“My husband has done every inch of this garden himself without ever really having
been a garden type before we took it on,” Ms McLellan said.
“He envisioned it would be what he did with himself in his retirement, but now it is
just the two of us, we are going to downsize.”

Unique features of the home will be sorely missed, such as “the attic” room — a nook
accessible by ladder from one of the bedrooms, and the “secret room” — a concrete-
lined cellar on the ground floor.
The layout lends itself to the possibility of Bed and Breakfast accommodation by way of a
two-bedroom granny flat, with its own outdoor terrace, timber flooring, induction
cooking and deluxe bathroom.
The home comes with a wraparound timber deck.
The main home has a country-style appeal, with the spaciousness and versatility
needed for a multi-aged family.
Luxury appointments prevail throughout, from the Caesarstone Frosty Carina Island
bench and polished chrome tapware in the kitchen, to designer vanities and heated
handrails in the bathrooms, and a sprawling master suite with bespoke dresser.
There’s even a tennis court and a dam.
The grounds are idyllic, tranquil, and nestled behind a high wall for ultimate privacy,
with a stately circular driveway, tropical plantings, a tennis court, wraparound pool
and dam.
But with 800 sqm under roof, and hours of mowing each weekend, the McLellans are
searching for smaller quarters.
Their five-year-old grandson, James, isn’t in support of the plan.
How cute is the upstairs attic?
“James asked why Nanny would sell a house that wasn’t broken,” Ms McLellan said.
“He has a room with his name on the door and he calls this house ‘my house’.
“I have promised him the next place will have a door with his name on it too.”
The property is scheduled for auction on Sunday, April 23, at midday.
