16 Lauriston Court, Cheltenham, passed in at its Saturday auction.
An Irish couple looking to relocate back home might be waiting a little longer after their property in Melbourne’s southeast passed in at its Saturday auction.
Shane McMahon and his wife moved to Melbourne from Ireland about 10 years ago, initially renting in South Melbourne before buying their first home in Cheltenham in 2020.
While they initially hoped to live in the three-bedroom townhouse for several years and potentially start a family there, a job offer in the couple’s homeland led them to put the 16 Lauriston Court pad on the market.

“It’s a reluctant sale, we do love the property and it’s a great home,” Mr McMahon said.
“But this work opportunity came up quite quickly.”
The pair listed the dwelling with a $950,000-$990,000 price guide and were expecting a strong result after receiving immense interest over its campaign from downsizers, first-home buyers, young professionals and families.
The property comes with a small courtyard at the rear.

A balcony off the main living room is also included.
But with the auction market having one of its quietest Melbourne Cup weekends since before the pandemic, the McMahons’ Cheltenham home ultimately passed in under the hammer.
Three buyers showed up on the day, including two young couples and a single mother, but only two placed active bids at the auction.
Ray White Cheltenham chief auctioneer Kevin Chokshi said it was a “heated competition” which kicked off with an $800,000 offer.

The home comes with two bathrooms, including an ensuite.
Bidding climbed up fairly quickly before passing in at on a $950,000 offer. The reserve price is set at $990,000.
Further negotiations are currently taking place and Mr Chokshi said he was confident a sale would be reached in the coming days.
Mr McMahon added that he had loved living in the southeast and in walking distance to amenities such as Southland shopping centre, Cheltenham train station and plenty of golf courses, being a keen golfer himself.
“It’s a great place for a young family and even for pets — it’s nice and spacious and a great neighbourhood in a little cul-de-sac,” he said.
The contemporary home stretches across two storeys and features a stylish kitchen, two bathrooms including an ensuite off the main bedroom, and even a balcony off the living zone on the first floor.
A rear courtyard is also included.
