The Newport home dubbed the Flintstone House has sold for $2,582,000, $357k more than first expected.
Officially called Hollander House, the three-bedroom home with study at 81 Grandview Drive was built in the late 1960s by architect David Hollander and is made of hand-formed ferro cement in a free-form design,
It’s reminiscent of famed Spanish architect Antonio Gaudi’s Barcelona designs, but some of the locals think it’s straight out of Bedrock, Fred Flintstone’s hometown.

The interiors were handmade and the low-set home sits lightly on its large Newport block and has wide ocean views.
Laura Mears, of McGrath Pittwater, initially had a $2.25m guide but this was later lifted to $2.4m before last week’s midweek auction.
Mears had three registered at the auction with two competing from $2.4m. Mears sold it about an hour after the gavel fell to a local family.
“They’d driven past the house since childhood and loved it and can’t believe they’re now moving in,” Mears said.
Graphic design studio owner Pieter Owen and his wife Michelle had bought Hollander House, on a 904sqm block, in 2015 for $1.4m and set about improving the home, without losing sight of the whimsy and imaginative design.
There are now three decks and a balcony, skylights, and a contemporary marble island kitchen with walk-in pantry.
According to PropTrack, the median house price in Newport, NSW is $2.873m. That’s down 5.3 per cent over the past 12 months.
