The Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch Speedmaster watch collection always had an interesting tale and recently it got a new chapter in form of the MoonSwatch Mission To Moonshine Gold watch. The previous Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch received a rapturous reception and has been highly desirable although the unique selling methods also piqued interest amongst watch aficionados. This new limited-edition Omega collaboration from Swatch was also technically available for a single day and has ensured that a lot of frenzies continue to surround this watch collection. Amidst the speculation and hype, this new timepiece is indeed a continuous variation of the earlier watch albeit being a nod to the original Speedmaster Moonwatch.
Hence, as you can see, it is the MoonSwatch Mission to the Moon watch with a gold chronograph seconds hand. This detail infuses Omega Moonshine gold and which is the defining characteristic of this watch and governs various characteristics including where it has been sold. You see, Moonshine gold is not your regular gold as it is a rare alloy with distinctive design attributes.
Hence, each gold seconds hand was produced during a full moon in the month of February (Feb 5th to be precise) and is sold in the cities which have a connection with this gold. That is why this watch has been on sale in only four cities namely London, Milan, Tokyo, and Zurich. This is a rather intriguing aspect and one that brings in a lot of rarity to this watch. However, for those who do not live in these cities, the Moonshine MoonSwatch could be available elsewhere too.
The complex nature of this watch and the story behind it seals the deal as being a tough-to-get limited edition timepiece. Also due to the fact that all of the gold-plated hands were made on the 5th of February, the production is much smaller. Needless to say, it is also not sold online, much like the previous watch.
We feel it is a slight variation of the Mission to the Moon watch and not a radical change although we might expect that in the future! The pricing though is pretty good value and is not a huge change from the earlier MoonSwatch.
