Today I’m sharing how to have cool college fashion style over 50. My interest in this topic began when I started visiting my son Evan at Indiana University. Everywhere we went we saw girls wearing almost the same thing – a crop top (either white or black), distressed high-waisted jeans (mostly mom jeans), and sneakers. It must be the college uniform! Jodie from Jodie’s Touch of Style mentioned a similar thing recently and I chimed in about my observation. She suggested we put on own take on college style and a new collaboration was born! Her friend Cathie got into the mix too.

Cool College Fashion Style over 50
I kept this price of this look in line with what college gals could afford when it comes to the top and bottoms. The patchwork top (which was from my Target collaboration with the Blonde Squad) was only $12 when I bought it. It’s now on clearance for $10! The jeans were a Marshalls find for $12. $22 for the basics? Not bad! Now the accessories are what really polish the look off and I won’t deny that college gals cannot afford a Louis Vuitton belt and bag. That’s where being older helps. Lol!
What I struggle with when it comes to this outfit formula is the crop top. I don’t like showing off my over 50 tummy area which is why I went with a slightly longer and detailed crop top. The focus is on the bright colors and cool seams and not my tummy. The high-waisted jeans with the added belt keep most of my waist covered too. One detail that I veered away from was the looser jean silhouette that the college gals embrace. I chose to go the skinny jeans route because of my petite frame. I look taller and leaner in a fitted silhouette.
The last detail I chose to stay away from was sneakers. I really wanted to dress this look up so I chose my open toed bootie sandals. I like the extra height and love how the color of the shoes mimics the orange color of the top.
What do you think of my college style? Don’t forget to check out Jodie and Cathie’s post on this topic. What do you see on women when you are on a college campus? Let me know in the comments.
Have a great week! XO
