I kind of joke that trench season is literally a slither of the year. And it is really, but for that slither it is such a useful item in your wardrobe and the good news? It doesn’t date. So will continue to be brought out year after year.
I used to have J Crew trench which I loved but it has become too tight on the shoulders so has been dropped to the charity shop. And as you can see, I have barely styled my new Uniqlo one any differently (same bag, btw!). Here is a round-up of some trenches I have seen out and about on the High Street which I think are good value and will stand the test of time.
1.
I saw this coat instore last week and it’s such lovely quality: soft and a little slouchy (it’s a linen mix) and I love how the collar neatly tucks away so it has an almost ‘car coat’ feel. It’s not the cheapest but I’ll be showing different options here.
2.
This is as close to the Arket one (without the pricetag) I could find that had a similar soft loosely hung style, and I quite like the yellowish hue to this one.

3.
A bit more of a classic style in terms of fabric and shape, but a chic one nonetheless (it comes in beige, too, but I thought it was good to include black in this edit).
4.
H&M had a great trench for £39.99 (which was on The Edit!) but it has sold out everywhere in every colour. I would still argue that this is a great investment though, the back detail makes it look way more directional.

Ii often forget Muji but for practical wardrobe staples for a reasaonable price, I need to be looking there more often. I tried to order one of their trenches last year but they had completely sold out of my size. The fabric and cut was just perfect, plus it is the only coat that specifically mentioned water repellent in the description.
6.
I really like the simple styling of this trench, and the slouch of this particular one really works for the look. I always rate Whistles quality so it’s a good investment.

Trench: £159, Hush
But they all look the same? Nope, this trench’s USP is its length – it’s ankle grazing style makes it so chic and it’s important this is a softer fabric (this is lyocell) that swishes as you move. It’d make a great lightweight coat for spring travel, too (and easy to add to a suitcase!).
