I’d been wanting to eat at The Butler since way back in 2017. It was on my original list of ‘Sydney restaurants to eat at while I live here’, and for whatever reason I just never got around to it. There are so many amazing restaurants in the city, there just wasn’t enough time (or money) for me to eat at every restaurant that I wanted to eat it…especially when I also found favourites that I wanted to revisit. So on my latest visit to Sydney in November 2022, I was determined to finally go.
I booked a table for my first evening back in Sydney, and went with my friend Nicole. And thankfully it didn’t disappoint and was one of those restaurants where I was so happy and relieved that it surpassed all expectations, especially after I’d waited so many years to try it!
The Butler sits in Potts Point, right in the middle of Woolloomooloo and Rushcutter’s Bay, and offers stunning views over the city skyline with an Ibero-American influenced menu. We arrived just as the sun was setting and I couldn’t stop taking photos of that view!
We were very fortunate to have a table outside on the terrace, and not only was the setting spectacular, but the cocktails were unbelievably good (we tested many), and the food was just outstanding. The whole experience from beginning to end was *chefs kiss*.
You’ll have to excuse the poor phone photos – I didn’t think to take my camera as I wasn’t expecting to write up a review for you, but our experience was so good I just needed to tell you about it!
The menu is a sharing menu, so without further ado, we enjoyed the following…
Kingfish Aguachile, coconut, watermelon, baby cukes, avocado, smoked caviar
Tacos – Pipian chicken, avocado, lime pepitas
“Chorizo y papas” gnocchi, Mexican red chorizo ragù, pico di gallo, brown butter crema
Cauliflower, flash fried, brown butter almonds, lime, homemade queso fresco
Confit pork carnitas, white onion, radish, chicharrons, salsa verde, warm tortilla
Grilled eggplant, red chile miso, lime togarashi, pomegranate
The desserts at The Butler are seasonal, so we shared the Butler in Bloom dessert special, which was Coconut Piloncillo Parfait with hibiscus & lemon myrtle sorbet. It was incredible! We both absolutely loved it – it was very light and the flavours were just perfection.
I was really, really impressed with The Butler, and I can’t wait to go back to Sydney again so I can try their brunch menu!
