“This experimentation with design and shapes, often connected with complications – but not always – has been a constant at AP,” Vivas said.
After World War II, round watches became the dominant style, but AP kept its rich creativity by producing square, rectangular, and cushion-shaped watches (like Lamar’s). In the early ’60s, it even experimented with tons of asymmetrical case shapes. You can find all kinds of edgy or curvy contours that we’d now call “retro-futuristic.”
