The Frogman is now one of G-SHOCK’s most iconic collections, but Yuichi Masuda, a member of the original G-SHOCK development team and now President, CEO and CHRO of CASIO Computer Co., conceived the idea 30 years ago. The latest MRG-BF1000R was planned by Shingo Ishizaka, who oversaw the design of the first Frogman. The sapphire-crystal, screw-in case back is digitally decorated with a wave pattern and features the same frog character engraved on the original Frogman.
“I put my respect for the first-generation model into the production of the iconic MR-G again. It’s funny that I respected the first model when I designed it myself,” Mr. Ishizaka recalled with a wry smile.
But it’s an undeniable fact that the innovative design conceived 30 years ago still drums up considerable support today. Entering the MR-G line-up, the Frogman has been successful beyond what anyone could have imagined. However, the challenge continues. This attitude is also reflected in the watches, as the Frogman continues to be beloved by professionals who take on the harshest environments.
