Refreshing & Easy Cucumber Margaritas
These homemade margaritas with thinly sliced cucumber and lime are the refreshing, boozy drink your summer afternoons were missing! Loaded with white tequila and a bit of Grand Marnier, every little sip will help you get the party started— even if it’s a party of 1.
With recipe amounts for a small gathering and a single serving, you won’t have to worry about making too much or too little of these margaritas. With everyone’s glass full, your agave-sweetened evenings can only be a success.
Served in salt-rimmed glasses with mint ice cubes for a little fanciness, these homemade margaritas will impress all your friends and family. Regardless of how many batches they ask you to make for parties from now on, the good thing is they’re ready in only 10 minutes.
What You’ll Need
Check the recipe card at the bottom of the post for full ingredient amounts for a single serving or 4 servings of these homemade margaritas.
- Tequila: They aren’t margaritas without tequila, right? I personally like to use a white tequila for these, but you can use whatever tequila you like the best.
- Grand Marnier: If you don’t have Grand Marnier on hand, Cointreau also works great!
- Lime Juice: Feel free to use lemon juice.
- Agave Nectar – This is also called agave syrup. You can substitute it for simple syrup or even raw honey.
- English cucumber: Swap it for 2-3 small Persian cucumbers if that’s all you’ve got on hand.
- Tajin Or Salt: For the rim of the glass, I recommend using Margarita Salt (it’s a coarse salt, perfect for cocktail rims) or Tajin!
A bit of chile, mint, or even Cointreau can expand your drink repertoire in seconds without straying from this margarita recipe too much.
- Cucumber jalapeño margaritas. Add 2-3 slices of jalapeño to the cocktail shaker for every serving. Muddle them (crush them) a little bit. Add the remaining ingredients and prepare as usual for a kick of heat.
- Cucumber mint margaritas. Muddle 2-3 mint leaves in the cocktail shaker to taste for every serving. Add the remaining ingredients and prepare as usual. Strain as usual and you’ve got yourself a minty margarita.
- Use Cointreau. Swap the Grand Marnier for an orange liqueur of your choice for added citrus notes in every sip.
How To Make Cucumber Pitcher Margaritas
This is perfect for 4 servings of these homemade margaritas.
- Add a rim. This step is optional, but you can add a rim 10 minutes before serving the margaritas. Do this by dipping the rims of the glasses in lime juice and then gently tapping them into salt. Set them aside to air dry.
- Stir. Add the tequila, Grand Marnier, lime juice, and agave nectar to a medium-sized pitcher. Stir well to combine. Add the cucumber, limes, and 2-3 cups of ice (if desired.) Serve immediately.
How to Make a Single Cucumber Margarita
Who says you can’t have a party of 1?
- Shake it. Add 2-3 ice cubes to a cocktail shaker. Pour in the tequila, lime juice, Grand Marnier, and agave nectar. Cover the cocktail shaker with the lid. Shake until well combined.
- Strain it. Strain the drink into an ice-filled glass with a salted rim. If you’re not a fan of salted rims, leave it out.
- Serve. Stir in the cucumber and lime slices along with 2-3 pieces of ice. Serve immediately.
Tips for Success
Making these homemade margaritas extra boozy and cucumber-like is easy with these simple tips.
- Intensify the cucumber. Soak the sliced cucumbers in tequila overnight in the fridge. Strain the cucumbers and seeds out of the tequila and use the tequila as usual.
- Use your favorite tequila. I prefer silver/white tequila for these margaritas, but feel free to use whatever you’ve got on hand.
- Add a rim. Tajín or Miguelito chili powders make a great rim for your glasses if you want to fancy them up.
These homemade margaritas are great when garnished with a lime wedge. It also makes each glass look super pretty! For a real show-stopping presentation, you can also make mint ice cubes.
Roughly chop 4-5 fresh mint leaves and add them to 2-3 cups water (depending on how much ice you’re making.) Pour it into ice cube trays and freeze overnight. Add the mint ice cubes to your serving glasses.

Serve these homemade margaritas right away for the best results, but you can make them up to 3 days in advance and they’ll still be super yummy.

For 4 Margaritas:
- 1 1/2 cup tequila
- 1 cup Grand Marnier
- ¾ cup lime juice, freshly squeezed
- ½ cup agave nectar, plus more to taste
- 1/2 English cucumber, sliced
- 2-3 limes, sliced
For a Single Serving
- 3 oz tequila
- 1 ½ oz lime juice
- 1 ½ oz Grand Marnier
- 1 to 1 ½ oz agave nectar, depending on preference
- 2-3 cucumber slices
- 2-3 slices of lime
Optional For Glass Rim:
For 4 Margaritas:
- Optional: 10 minutes before serving the margaritas, salt the rims of your glasses by dipping the rims of the glasses in lime juice then gently tapping them into salt before letting them air dry.
- Stir the tequila, Grand Marnier, lime juice and agave together in a medium size pitcher. Then stir in the cucumber and limes and finally 2-3 cups of ice, if desired.
- Serve immediately.
For a Single Serving:
- Add 2-3 pieces of ice to a cocktail shaker then pour in the tequila, lime juice, Grand Marnier and agave and cover and shake until well combined.
- Strain the drink into a glass filled with ice and with a salted rim, if desired. Stir in the cucumber and lime slices along with 2-3 pieces and then serve immediately.
Agave: If you do not have agave, you can use simple syrup or honey in it’s place.
